Little Doses is a bit of a long story! In fact, I’m honestly not sure you want to know so much about it, cause it’s endgame is pretty horrible! Would it be okay for me to just say I’m a horrible person who enjoys torturing characters and that be enough?
Please tell me everything I live for fucked up spoilers you can’t just say that and not elaborate holy shit I need
No spoilers! At least, no major ones. I will, I suppose, give how I came up for the story under the cut for those interested.
Back when gem egg hell started, I was away from my home for the week and had no clue, though I had come up with an idea with a similar concept that I wanted to write for Rupphire, and ended up mashing the two for my own headcanons. When I got back and saw the au, I noticed a lack of Pearlmethyst, Rupphire, and Lapidot in the tags. Actually, most I saw was Pearlnet and Jaspidot. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great ships! I just wanted something different. So I started brainstorming.
While I was trying to come up with the basis for the story I wanted to write, I started doodling one day, and ended up with a picture of Pearl, being extremely proud of the eggs she had laid, alone in her room. The paper ended up filled with five sketches total. One with Pearl, one with Ruby and Sapphire, one with Lapis and Peridot, and one with Peridot alone, mirroring Pearl, but with shattered little egg shells around her, and a total of four eggs.
From then on, I wanted the story to be from Pearl’s point of view, and tried several times to actually write it as such. I still have the first draft for it, though I cut out right before she found Peridot and called for the others. I actually gave up on it for a little bit.
Now, the original content of Little Doses was just Ruby and Sapphire frickling, and I got ended up with a request for a part two. Particularly with them being in the middle of it, and having to stop for a mission. Maybe even with gem egg hell in the mix later. It took me forever to even get started on going about that, and one day, I accidentally clicked on my second draft for the story I had started. It was just the first paragraph, but reading over it, it fit so well, and it was easy to change point of view character wise.
Once I finally started writing it, it just.. Sprouted from there.
